The ANU Ultimate Club (ANUUC) is the home of disc sports at ANU. Ultimate combines the strategic and athletic aspects of a range of mainstream sports, including basketball, AFL, netball, and NFL. It is rapidly gaining recognition worldwide as a unique sport for its mixed gender play at all levels. Ultimate is set apart from most sports by its total reliance on self-refereeing, meaning that that players are exclusively responsible for following and enforcing the rules. This places a heavy emphasis on the Spirit of the Game - the commitment of all players to play competitively while maintaining respect both for other players and for the game’s rules. The climax of ANUUC’s season is the Australian Uni Games, held in September each year. We also regularly send teams to other competitive and social tournaments across the country. To this end, we divide our season into three sections: the introductory programme, during which our new members learn the basic skills they need to play Ultimate; our development block in which returning and new members are able to make new skills and gain in-game training before our mid-year tournaments, and performance block, where members are selected into our Unigames and Australian Mixed Ultimate Championships teams to finish the season around October. ANUUC plays a crucial role in developing Ultimate in Canberra and Australia, with many of our current and former members going on to compete with various clubs or representative teams at the National and World level.
